A feel for Ballard

Crossing the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks from Magnolia reveals Ballard as a destination in its own right. The Locks and fish ladder give the day a water-and-industry beginning; the National Nordic Museum adds cultural context; central Ballard supplies food, shops and evening energy.

Sunday is a particularly good fit for a market-centered visit. Golden Gardens offers another version of the day: open Sound views, a beach afternoon and a sunset worth leaving time for.

Shape your day

  1. Morning at the Locks and fish ladder, then continue to the National Nordic Museum.

  2. Lunch, shopping and the farmers market or historic core in central Ballard.

  3. Late afternoon at Golden Gardens; return for dinner, oysters or a brewery stop.
