I’m Mat. Seattle is home.

Mat represented as a felt character

I moved here in 2015 and made it a goal to see everything around me. I started working through a bucket list. Since then I’ve seen so many places, and my to-see list keeps growing.

I built Travel Scout to turn those trips into useful reports and the next ideas into plans. Every trip in the current PNW catalog is one I’ve taken. Most reports are still drafts; Jarrell Cove is the first finished fieldbook available to buy.

Why the felt character?

I didn’t want my face all over the internet. But I was fine with being a felt character. That’s me here: the same curiosity, with a little more wool.

What counts as scouting?

Firsthand reports describe trips we’ve actually taken. Research describes plans for a future trip. PNW contributors are Seattle residents sharing either their own trip or their preparation for the next one. We keep those two kinds of knowledge distinct.

Review dates mean an actual editorial review, not a website update. Until a review is documented, the guide says “not yet recorded.” Check current access, costs, weather and reservations before traveling.
