From Mat’s trips
A feel for Fremont
The Fremont Bridge and its neon Rapunzel establish the arrival. The Troll is the expected landmark; the Ship Canal gives the neighborhood a rhythm of rowers, boats, walkers and cyclists.
Along the Burke-Gilman Trail, look across to the Queen Anne shore and leave room to wander into the shops and streets above the water. Fremont Brewing has been a dependable group stop for me, with outdoor seating and an easy atmosphere.
Fremont works as a full neighborhood day, but it also connects naturally to Wallingford and Gas Works when you want to keep going.
Shape your day
Start at the Troll and walk the public-art circuit.
Move down toward the bridge and Ship Canal; follow a Burke Gilman segment.
Choose one activity: shopping, climbing, transfer-station viewing with children or a rowing-oriented walk.
Finish at Fremont Brewing, then continue into Wallingford and Gas Works if energy allows.
