$1,800Estimated budget · USD

Why this month

August is the proposed snow-free-season window, subject to the actual trail status and a complete permit.

A rough itinerary

  1. Day 1

Travel, collect the permit and stage approved food caches; sleep near the chosen trailhead.

  2. Days 2–4

Begin the circuit on the first permitted segment, pacing the early days conservatively.

  3. Days 5–7

Continue through the middle of the circuit and use a planned resupply point.

  4. Days 8–10

Complete the remaining permitted camps and stages, with daily checks on pace and conditions.

  5. Day 11

Finish the circuit, collect any cache containers and return home.

What I’m budgeting

Planning allowance for one adult starting and ending in Seattle, using an existing car. Hotel allowances cover the room without assuming a roommate. No flights, vehicle rental or paid trip-planning service are included. Mountain trips assume the experience and equipment described below.

Estimated trip costs in US dollars
Transport and cache logistics$250
Trail food and fuel$400
Permits and park access allowance$150
Trailhead lodging$200
Gear replacement or rental allowance$350
Contingency$450
Total, including contingency$1,800
Room below the $2,400 cap$600

These are planning estimates, not supplier quotes or a trip for sale. Lodging and ticket allowances include room for taxes and fees. Confirm 2027 prices before booking; change dates or scope if the total would exceed $2,400.

Before this becomes a booking

This is a planning framework, not a camp reservation. Final daily mileage and camps must fit the complete permit and fitness of the group. Requires existing backpacking equipment and experience; no guide or full new kit is included. Check closures before applying and before travel.
